To convert expert fonts from Word I make PDF the default printer?

I've been having trouble making PDF fonts with Word 2007 and Acrobat 9.0. The Type 1 "expert" fonts wouldn't convert, e.g. in Adobe Caslon and Adobe Garamond and [non-Adobe] Bembo. Nor would the "Alt" font in Adobe Caslon. Nor would symbol fonts called Universal GreekwithMath and Universal NewsCommPi. The regular fonts would convert, but the expert fonts etc. would leave blank spaces in the PDF file.

I never have this trouble on another computer with Word 2003 and Acrobat 8.0.

Tech support couldn't help me, but I just looked around this forum and saw someone suggesting, in a completely different context, making Adobe PDF the default printer.

I tried that and it solved my problem.

I don't know why but I won't argue. I'm glad I found help here. Thanks.

We have just installed Acrobat 9.3 and symbol fonts and bullets in Word 2003 do not distill. Is there a fix for this problem?
Thanks
