You can merge virtually any document format to PDF in one go with the 'Combine' feature in Acrobat so long as you have the authoring application on your system (except graphic formats and .dmg files).
Any PDF document can be split into smaller one page documents using the 'Extract Pages' function and then 'Extract as Singles'. Or open the PDF and then drop each page onto the desktop via the 'Pages' pane.
You can convert a document to PDF without Acrobat having to open by modifying options in the 'PDF Maker' option in any Microsoft application or via the preferences of the 'Adobe PDF' printer. However, if you talking about silent PDF creation via any other means then let us know.
Hope this helps?

I've been using Acrobat since v1.0 and still get amazed by its power. An Acrobat ACE since 1999
