Creating PDF from Scanner

After downloading the update to Acrobat 8 Standard, I cannot create a PDF file "From Scanner" anymore. This error message appears "Adobe Acrobat 8.1 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" and it asks me if I want to send an error report to Microsoft.
What can I do?

Hi --

You have to repair your program. Choose Help > Repair Acrobat Installation. You'll have to close open programs that are associated with Acrobat's installation, such as Word. When the repair is complete, try again.donna.

Thank you for the tip. Repair did not help, I reinstalled Adobe Acrobat 8, and if not absolutely necessary, I will not download 8.1.

Hi --

It's interesting that the 8.1 upgrade caused the issue.

If you want to keep experimenting, it may be something in the file you downloaded, and repeating the download/install process might work.

If you don't need it -- such as for Office XP -- then don't reinstall it.

I called Adobe support and they identified a background service called MotiveSB as conflicting software. This was software provied by my internet supplier Verizon. It is not necessary and I deleted it by deleting Verizon Support services from the installed programs. My version 8.1 now works correctly.
