Creating PDFs - Is there a way to create files from Acrobat 7.0 or 9.0 as though they were from Acrobat 5 or 6?

Might seem like an odd question.

I have a third party program that does not like newer versions of Acrobat, or the files they produce. I need it to accept files that have been created with 9.0 (or 7.0), but it currently will not.

I want to be able to convert Word files to PDF under "old" settings, if possible.
I also want to be able to take existing PDF files and re-convert to PDF (to ensure file uniformity, I am receiving files from many different people and they may be created with god knows what) again under "old" conversion settings.

Can anyone tell me if this is possible?

Thanks in advance.

In the conversion settings of the PDFMaker plugin you can set the Compatibility level down to "Acrobat 4.0 (PDF 1.3)".
It's under Settings, Advanced Settings, General.
