Have a new computer with Windows Vista 64 Bit OS. From a Page Maker or Word doc., I can not print to file (PDF). Get a message that first says "Will not launch acrobat distiller". Then I get a message immediately after that says, "Can not send to post script distiller". I have tried to re-install Distiller 5.0 for no help and I have also tried to download latest post script drivers from Adobe web site but they will not install. My Adobe program is pretty old (Photoshop 6 and Page Maker 7) but everything worked fine on other older computer with XP. I can not find any older free download versions of Acrobat and I DO NOT WANT TO BUY ACROBAT 9 LIKE SOME SUGGEST DOING. I am looked to solve problem with out cost.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 5.x or older, Windows

Acrobat Standard 5 does work under Vista. Only version 8 updated and Version 9 will work with Vista.

Serch the Adobe Knowledge base for more information.

If you have Office 2007, Microsoft has a plugin for "Save as PDF..." and Open Office Org has an Office compatible program that exprot to a PDF.

This is a user to user group.

Some additional observations...

The issue of significance is the 64 bit OS.
Compared to 32 bit Windows there are not as many "compatible" programs.
Regardless, for Adobe products that support 64-Bit you will want to read this TechNote:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403291.php

For Acrobat products, use the link to the support policy technote that is on the page above.
Note that PageMaker *is not* 64-Bit compatible.

Unfortunately the issue of software application compatibility/functionality vis-a-vis 32-Bit & 64-Bit
OS is not always clearly understood.

For the applications you have cited you need a 32-Bit OS (other than Vista - as George has noted).
