Embedding Fonts

I have a pdf document that needed changes. I made them through Illustrator and also had to add a few pages into the pdf that were created in Word so I converted them into a pdf and then combined all the pages into a single pdf document. The requirement is that the fonts be embedded. I have searched and the only thing I have found is using the Distiller but you can not distill a pdf. Is there a way to add fonts into the Touch-up text so that if they need changing the substitute font warning will not be enacted? Or is there an easy way to embedd the fonts? Thanks for your time.

Hi SBoaks,
You may have to do the PDF creation in two steps.
First print the *.doc to a postscript (*.ps) file. you will then have control over what Distiller embedds, through --> Edit Job Option.HTH

SBoaks,
Actually, you can run PDF files through Distiller. However, that might not be what you want.
One of the fellows hosted here at AUG called them "refried..." - an apt description; but, sometimes, in a pinch...
I suspect you will have to run the offending authoring file(s) through Distiller again and produce a new PDF.
If you are using another application to generate the PDF(s) that lack embedded fonts you will have to edit that part
of the application that addresses embedding fonts.

If you are using Distiller then you will want to edit an existing job option or create a new one that will provide two things:
1. Embed all fonts
2. Subset embedded fonts when percent of characters used is less than (enter 100) %

You can get to job options via Distiller directly or through the application (Illustrator/MS Word) commands/tools.
The document "Desk Reference Guide for PDF Document Generation"
at http://www.nrc.gov/site-help/electronic-sub-ref-mat.php
may be of use.

Dave

Be well...
