Using InDesign CS2 and exporting to PDF using Acrobat Professional 7, a good number of files end up with missing spaces between words and other anomolies. If we print to postscript and than distill, we do not have the same problem.

This sounds like a font issue.

When you Distill a file, the information forst gets expressed as PostScript and then converted to PDF. Usually it's preferable not to take this step unless neccessary. In this case the conversion to PostScript is reexpressing the font enough for the PDF file to contain something Acrobat or Reader can then display.

Try documents with different typefaces to see if you can isolate any that seem to do this. If you need to use them, then Distilling them is the way to go, but if you can replace them, do so.
