font conversion from MS Word ro PDF

I am new, &a beginner. Do you have to import unusual fonts in order for Acrobat to recognize them? When converting to pdf, acrobat changes my fonts, this making a 1 page doc to 2 pages.
Please help!

Just a thought; with whatever you are using to make your output PDF, have you tried embedding fonts?
