I have a user guide in Word that has links to other pages within the document and it has a Visio workflow in it. When I try and convert the document from Word 2002, one of two things happens.
The first problem is that during the conversion, the text in the workflow diagram is missing. I changed some settings in the printing preferences that were suggested in bulletin #892955 on Microsoft’s site.
They were:
To resolve this issue, set the PDF Print Quality option to the 600 dpi setting. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Quit Visio 2003 or Visio 2002, Word 2002, and Adobe Acrobat, if the programs are running.
2. Click Start, click Run, type control printers in the Open box, and then click OK.
3. Right-click Adobe PDF, and then click Printing Preferences.
4. Click the Layout tab, and then click Advanced.
5. In the Advanced PDF Converter Advanced Options dialog box, expand Graphic, and then click Print Quality.
6. Click 600dpi, and then click OK two times.
7. Start Word 2002, open the document, and then print the document to Adobe Acrobat. To print the drawing to Adobe Acrobat:
a. In Word 2002, click Print on the File menu.
b. Click Adobe PDF in the Name box, and then click OK.
c. In the Save PDF File As dialog box, specify a file name and a location where you want to save the PDF file, and then click Save.
Now, this does allow the text to be visible on the screen and printed after the conversion.
Then the second problem is that the links within the document do not work after conversion. I have taken these steps: Missing links in Adobe PDF after conversion from Microsoft Word.
1. In Adobe, go to Edit> preferences
2. Convert to PDF tab
3. Select Microsoft Office from the selection list
4. Go to Edit settings
5. Put a checkmark in the box that says ‘Add bookmarks and links to Adobe PDF file.
6. Click ok to close that window
7. Exit Adobe
So one or the other is a problem. Any suggestions on how to get BOTH of them working?
