Hide Scanner's Native Interface

As of the past week or so, in the Scanner Options window I can no longer choose to Hide Scanner's Native Interface - it is greyed out. If I choose no scanner in the Acrobat Scan window and then choose my scanner again it says "WIA Scanner Drive might face problems using Hide Scanner's Native Interface' mode. Switching to 'Show Scanner's Native Interface' mode.

This is a new problem - it was working fine until the last week or so. I tried uninstalling, and reinstalling without running the 8.1.3 update. This did not fix the problem. I really prefer the Acrobat scanning interface for various reasons.

Any ideas?

can you select TWAIN (or, better said, perhaps if you downloaded and installed the TWAIN version of the scanner driver, you might have better luck) - WIA is crap (form my experience)

Many developers i work with choose to actually create custom dialog boxes that offer a little more than what Adobe offers, but less then the TWAIN exposes - so, I understand why...

I suspect the scanner driver (as opposed to Acrobat) here as the thing that went south anyway...
