From adobe acrobat professional 8,

can I copy a layer from one document to another document?.
And I want to use a PDF document in different PDF as a layer…how to do this?
(or)
Can I merge two PDF files in to one PDF, and see both PDF contents as differnt layers (Over lay).
So I can switch off a layer to see only one...

I am trying to compare two Mechanical drawings by overlaying in PDF.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 8.0, Windows

I don't think you can do this with Acrobat 8 Pro alone, but I'm not 100% certain. However, if you have InDesign, you could simply place the PDF's into whatever layer structure you decide, and export to a new PDF. Just make sure your export settings are set to include the layers.

You can import a PDF into another as a layer (an OCG), however it will import flat - any layers in the imported file will be removed, and you cannot import PDFs with rich media content. Open the layers sidebar in the base document (if it's not visible, right-click the sidebar and choose it from the list), then click the tools submenu (gear icon) and choose Import As Layer.

It is not possible to copy layers between documents, nor to extract a single layer from a PDF, using Acrobat.
