the edit text box
Do you mean the Text Edits tool?

If so, this tool does not change font size or color.

If fonts are embedded in a PDF then the text can be selected with the TouchUp Text tool.
This tool is on the advanced editing toolbar.
Select this tool, click drag the text.
Right click. From the menu, select properties.
You can make changes to text and color from within this dialog.
Such changes may cause layout changes.
Remember, PDF is not a document processing application like InDesign or MS Word.
Best is to go back to the file from which the PDF came.
Edit that file.

This may be due to the document fonts not being embedded.

Try acrobat.com for posting a link to the screenshoot.

Be careful there is a comment tool labled 'Text Box', there are form field tools that can create a text field, and there is 'Touch Up Text Tool'.

An 'empty text edit box' sounds like you are using the commenting tool 'text box'.

Are you working with a scaned document?

If so you will need to Optical Charater Recognize (OCR) it before you will have any text.
