Image "shine through"

When placing an image/s under a black block of colour to hide image (using Indesign CS2), after export to pdf the images can be seen under the colour. Any ideas.

Not sure if this should be posted here on in an Indesign forum.

Thanks

Is your intention is to cover up the image, I would recommend using the Redaction tools which are part of Acrobat 8 and 9.
Or, you can try deleting the image with the Content Panel and Touch Up tools so it doesn't shine through.

Thanks for your reply lkassuba. The intention is to cover only a part of the images. The document consists of a row of images at an angle. I have placed a black rectangle over several of these to give a straight edge at a predefined point.

I could alter all the images manually in the original creation app - indesign - although the original method used is more time effective.

I'm currently using Acrobat pro ver 7.

Thanks

The problem sounds like an overprint attribute is applied to the black. You can preview this both in InDesign or Acrobat by turning Overprint Preview on.

The setting for the default Black swatch color in InDesign is to Overprint (as opposed to "Knock Out") when the swatch color is applied at 100% opacity. In CS3 & CS2 you can turn this function off within the Preferences under the Appearance of Black setting. Alternately you can simply create your own rich black (consisting of CMYK values) swatch and use it instead of the default black. If you own the PitStop plugin to Acrobat you can remove the overprint setting from any given object withing a PDF after the fact, but it's better to take care of in in InDesign if you can.

Let me know if this helps, or if you need more detail. I'd be willing to examine and fix this one PDF to confirm the issue if you like. email it to iam1andplural2[at]gmail.com

Thanks rhickey. Unchecking over overprint worked great as did creating a new black swatch. Thanks again for your help.
