Losing headings from MS Word

I have a huge MS Word (2007) doc that I'm trying to convert to a pdf. I have the headings set up as:

Chapter 1 - Introduction
1.1 Something Interesting
1.1.1 Something Interesting
1.1.1.1 Something Interesting

For some reason, Headings 1 and 2 are fine, but with headings 3 and 4, I lose the first word. I still have the numbers. For example if it should be "3.2.1 Something Interesting" all I get is "3.2.1 Interesting". If I print to adobe, it comes out fine, but I want to have the bookmarks from the table of contents, so, I'd like to use the convert to pdf tool. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

Although this does not explain why it's happening (I have no clue), have you tried opening Acrobat Pro, then selecting 'Create PDF from File'? I find that this method usually produces the least errors.
