Numbered headings

Hi there,

Well, I'm writing my thesis project using Word 2007 and Acro pro 9.0 to create PDF from Word. I've created a multilevel list, you know.... 1.1 Introduction, .... 1.2 Overview..... , and so on, using Heading 1, 2 , etc. When I create a PDF, all those numbers are lost!. If I create a multilevel list using my own styles instead of Word's built-in styles (heading 1, 2, ...) everything is okay but then I cannot cross-reference my sections, because Word can only do that when using its built-in styles. So I gues this is kind of trade-off.
Can I do something about this issue? Does Acro Pro 9 work with multilevel lists based on Word's built-in Heading styles?

(I was able to use a plug-in named Arts PDF Aerialist, but I'm not totally happy with it!)

Thanks for your time.

Regards,
Sandor

Are those headings in your running text or in the bookmarks?

I don't understand pretty well your question, but I guess the answer is .... in my running text.

I mean,
Heading 1-> Chapert 1. Bla, bla
Heading 2-> 1.1 Overview
...
Heading 3-> 1.2 Blablala
...

And at some points of the document, I have cross-references, for instance:

bla, bla, bla, (see section 1.1)

Thanks and regards,

Somethings to consider/play with -

In MS Word 2007; Home ribbon, Paragraph pane - select Multilevel numbering
1
1.1
1.1.1
etc.

For the PDFMaker Preferences:
Under Settings tab - select/check "Create Bookmarks"
- this selection tells PDFMaker that you want bookmarks but not what the bookmarks come from
Under Bookmarks tab - the default Convert Word Headings to Bookmarks must be checked.
- the selections here tells PDFMaker what the PDF bookmarks are to come from

You may want to consider creating a unique Word template containing your desired auto numbering.
For a Chapter # entry, you may want to consider using some variation of the Title Style.

fwiw - My quick run throughs with MS Word 2007 and Acrobat 9 Pro Extended result
in the numbering being present in the body of the output PDF and in the PDF bookmarks; so,
the desired goal is attainable.

Be well...
