Mac/Illustrator CS3 / Acrobat 9 Pro

I created 4 separate Illustrator files with images and text in them. What is the best way to create a PDF file with a small file size (under 1MB) but retain the quality? This PDF for be strictly for web viewing only.

Also, when I create a combined PDF in Acrobat from those Illustrator files, I get the following error message:

"The PDF document contained image masks that were not downsampled"

Any idea what it means and how to fix it?

Acrobat Pro 9.0, Macintosh

using Acrobat 9

I got the same error message when reducing file size of an existing pdf using Acrobat 9:
"The PDF document contained image masks that were not downsampled."

Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I think this isn't an error message, but a notification that some parts of the image could not be downsampled. Did the final file size go down?

I too get this message! I am at my wit's end! I can get no information as to how to fix this problem! Our newspaper is sent to subscribers in pdf format, and they are telling me that they are receiving pages with portions missing. Those are the pages that I have gotten those warnings. Does anyone know what I should do? I need help!

Thanks
