When I am scanning documents and save them to file in pdf format, then try to email them they are too large. Is there somewhere in the settings I can make the pdf files smaller?

There are a number of ways in which you can make the file smaller, either before or after creating the PDF file from your source file.
Here are a few suggestions:
* In your scanner's dialog box, choose a lower resolution scan. A resolution of 300dpi is fine for scanning and also printing.
* Is your finished product an image? If so, that is going to be where the largest part of the problem lies. If you are scanning a document that contains just text, use the black and white scan option. It may end up an image file, but much smaller.
* You don't mention whether you are scanning into Acrobat or simply scanning your files. If you are scanning into Acrobat, click the Create PDF task button and choose From Scanner to open the Acrobat Scan dialog box. Drag the Optimization slider left to decrease the size of the document. Also, be sure to leave the Make Searchable (Run OCR) option selected. The content is captured as text, which is much smaller than a picture of the text.
In Acrobat, you can decrease the size of the file in a number of ways:
* Choose Document > Optimize Scanned PDF to open the dialog box listing different methods for improving the visual quality of a scanned document. Drag the slider at the top of the dialog left to decrease the size of the file.* Choose Document > Examine Document. You'll see a list of document information that may not be required, such as hidden text or bookmarks. You can select those you want to remove and delete them from the file. That will save file size as well.* Choose Advanced > PDF Optimizer to open the PDF Optimizer dialog box.
