PDF OCR

I am using Acrobat Pro 7.0.8 and am trying to OCR a document that is an image and not searchable text.
However, for some reason in Document->Recognize Text Using OCR I only have 2 options, one for "Find First OCR Suspect" and the other being "Find All OCR Suspects", I do not have the other option that the help files talk about where you can start the OCR. In addition I tried to follow this link:

http://blogs.adobe.com/acrolaw/2005/10/batch_ocr_using_1.php

to batch automate the process and found the "Recognize Text Using OCR" option was not available to me.

Can anyone help out and point me to the how I get this functionality restored.

Regards,

Andy.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 7.0.8, Windows

I cannot help with the specifics, but from your description I would not plan to have much success. We use a very expensive OCR application at work and still get terrrible results. OCR just is not suitable for the vast majority of documents that were not designed from the outset to be run through OCR. I don't know how Google does its magic for many of the documents it has scanned and put online, but the OCR built into Acrobat is pretty low end.

I appreciate your response about OCR success rates and was not anticipating a 100% solution, just something to avoid me re-typing the whole document.

I could certainly handle some editing, but as of right now I cannot get even that far.

Someone must be able to shed some light on this lack of OCR option?

As I am outside the warranty period for the software, I am unable to get support from Adobe to handle this support request.

Andy.
