We are using Acrobat Pro 7 and 8 to produce PDFs from Internet Explorer. Every PDF generated contains user windows xp login name as Author name in the PDF's document properties description tab. All our users are on XP with Acrobat Pro 7 or 8 and don't want their login names stamped on each PDF produced for security reason. Please help.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 7.0.0, Windows

In Acrobat, Edit | Properties | Identity.

Adjust as needed.

Holler if this doesn't help.

Second time to type this.....

I believe that the data in question is pulled from the OS at coversion time and not stored in the registry anywhere.

Grab your pocket-protector, slide rule and beanie hat....

Settings for IE are stored here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MenuExt
Under each of the subkeys, there is a Name called Contexts that is a DWORD. Changing this value may, on one or more, Names may give you the desired result. However, I think you will end up breaking more things than fixing them.

Identity settings for Acrobat are stored here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\7.0\Identity
change the 7.0 to the version of your choice - same general location.

I agree that this should be something settable in the product.

Workarounds --
-- Manually change the docinfo.
-- Use a tool such as AcroTools to create a deployable button to make the change and resave the PDF.
-- Use the batch processing engine (Advanced menu in Pro) to grind through a pile of files and make the change. This can be done w/ no JavaScript - Title, Subject, Author, Keywords can be updated along with the Save stuff.

Last time I checked Acrobat Tuner(6/7)/Customization Wizard (8) do not provide any additional help in this area.

Sorry I couldn't have been of more help.

How can you permanently change this. I want to set a default but I'm unable to change the login under preferences. Thanks

I have the same question, but when I change my name in "preferences" it does not change my default identity. I'm still identified as my login when I edit a document. And I can't change the login name (its greyed out). I'd love to solve this problem...

Unfortunately the login name is just that, the login in name. At a minimum this should be something that can be configured by the Customization Wizard.

Or at worst a registry hack to turn it off.

In the area of Annotations, automatic insertion of the login name is a signifigant convenience. What would be nice would be the ability to use another identifier from Login Name for this purpose. At many companies the login ID has little (no) relationship to the author's identity - other than through a lookup in an employee directory. It would be nice to select the 'Name' field out of the Identity preferences to support this. A thought I will take back with me.

Thanks.
