Print/append to an existing file

I have a financial application that needs to print a large number of reports to PDF files on a batch/unattended basis. The process should be simple
1. Open the data file in the application,
2. Print the reports to PDF,
3. Close the data file,
4. Open the next file in the batch and repeat,
5. Do this for about 100 files in the batch (the app handles the automation).

I can set the Acrobat print driver options to NOT View PDF Results, and to NOT Ask to Replace Existing File names, so it should cruise along and just generate 100 PDFs in "silent mode."

However, the application's data file names are all >40 characters long, with the only differences among files being in the last few characters. Only about the first 30+ of those characters are passed through from the application to Acrobat, making most of the resulting PDF file names identical. And then Acrobat just overwrites the last PDF file with the next one that comes along.

So (finally) my question: is there any way to get Acrobat to append each new set of pages to an existing PDF file rather than overwriting it with a new file of the same name? (Does this make sense?)

I know this should be obvious; it's probably right in front of me, but for some reason, I can't see it. I fully expect to be embarrassed by the answer.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Don't be embarassed. As far as I know you STILL can't do this with Acrobat through version 9.

I have asked Adobe to add this feature several times over the past 5 years. As a matter of fact I asked them to add it again a couple of days ago.

So far they seem to ignore my requests.

I think your best solution is to look for and purchase one of the competing PDF creation products that does this. That includes almost all of them.

They will also cost you a lot less, use less resources and not fill your computer up with unnecessary bloatware.

And best of all, they are developed by small companies, some of them only one man shows, who will take your suggestions seriously and be responsive.

Wow. Sounds like you have an opinion!

Just kidding. Thanks for the feedback, and for letting me know I'm not crazy. Kind of wish the Acrobat support team (or better yet, developers) monitored places like this one.

Thanks so much for the response. I'm leaving this out here, just in case...
