Printing to Adobe

What is the best method for making a source document a pdf file? I remembered at the PDF Central Conference that we were cautioned not to print to Distiller for some reason; we were to convert instead.
However, there is another option called Primo PDF and it preserves the document as is. Sometimes converting will change the appearance.
What is the best, recommended way to save/print to pdf?
Thanks!

If the end product is the best PDF for what you want to use then I would use Primo. Once it is a PDF you can always import it into Acrobat for creation of forms or other goodies.

I don't understand "layers" or "embedding" very well. By printing to Primo, does that have anything to do with layers or embedding?
