Printing an index

If an index has been created, can the index itself be created as a pdf and then printed?

If not, any suggestions on how to create an index or table of contents without purchasing any new software?

I'm new to this board, thanks for listening ...

Acrobat Standard 8.0, Macintosh

Jane,
Of course either the index or the table of contents are products of the application you are authoring in.

Once you have used the authoring application to configure and produce either/both just produce an output PDF. To obtain hard copy of either the index or the table of contents just print the appropriate page range from the output PDF.

Be well...

Oops, I guess I didn't ask the right question. When creating a "collection" or "catolog" from many pdfs, Acrobat creates a searchable index. I was wondering if the Acrobat index could become a pdf itself. Thanks!

The answer to that is No. I am not sure what you mean by printing a searchable index though.
