I tried to post this yesterday, but I'm not sure it worked. I apologize if I'm repeating myself.
In March we updated all of the Macs in our Marketing Dept (six of them) to Mac Pros. We are running Mac OS 10.4.10 (updated after purchase from 10.4.9), Quark 7.2, And Adobe CS3 Design Standard.
We are having a lot of problems creating pdf files from Quark. When we were using older Macs (G4s and G5s running OS X 10.3 and Quark 6.5) we could do this. We couldn't create a pdf if we tried to write the pdf to the server, but as long as we created the pdf to our desktop, it was fine.
Now, when we try to print to pdf, Quark acts like it's processing the document, and it shows up in the pdf printer window as a completed job, but it never generates a pdf file, a log or any errors. It just writes to nothing.
We seem to be able to write to pdf files from InDesign. I haven't tried it from any other applications yet. This is happening on all six of the MacPros, so I don't think it's an anomaly. Any ideas?
For now you need to go into the terminal and type:
sudo chmod 755 /private/var/spool/cups/
and it should work.
Or - just generate a postscript file and drop into Acrobat Distiller ....
I do not want to recommend generating a PDF directly through Quark since it uses the in-built PDF Library which I have personally experienced problems with ..
Best regards,
Jon
PS - no problems with InDesign either printing to the Adobe PDF printer or exporting to PDF ...
I've been using Acrobat since v1.0 and still get amazed by its power. An Acrobat ACE since 1999
