Pull Text from Document to Metadata

I have about 500 reports that I am about to batch convert from Word to PDF. However, the "Title" document properties in each are all the same because, as people created the reports, they did not update the properties. I have been trying to find for several days now a way to take the first line of text in the report (which is the report title) and automatically insert that text into the text doc properties either before or after the conversion to PDF. Any suggestions would be tremendous, as I have looked through the JS reference and could not find any particular scripting that would allow me to do this operation.
