Lori: I just upgraded from 5.0 to 8.0 and many of our office PCs just have Reader 6.0. First, everything I do in 8.0 is defaulting to require 7.0 or higher and I can't find the settings to change it. Another very important document I just rolled out gives them an error even if opening with Reader 7.0, that says "the root object is missing or invalid". We are in great need of this document as many in the company use it and we are all stuck at what to do. Any help would be very much appreciated.

I'm not Lori, but maybe I can help.
Saving content in Acrobat 8 defaults to using PDF 1.6, or Acrobat 7. You can work in the PDF Optimizer, or use the Preflight tool as I have described below:
1. Choose Advanced > Preflight to load the profiles and open the Preflight dialog box.2. Click the (+) to the left of Acrobat/PDF version compatibility to open the list.
3. Click Compatible with Acrobat 6. Notice the two icons to the left of the option's name - the [i]P[/i] within the magnifying glass shape indicates the existence of the profile, the wrench icon indicates that the profile includes a fixup that will convert the file. In the Purpose of the preselected Preflight profile, you see a description of how the profile works.
4. Click Execute. The file is processed; name the file in the Save As dialog box and click Save.
5. The results are shown in the dialog box.
If you want to automate the process, make a [i]droplet[/i], which is an executable file that runs the profile automatically.
Follow these steps:
1. Make sure the Preflight profile is selected.
2. Click Options on the Preflight dialog box, and select Create Preflight Droplet. [i] If you haven't selected a profile, you won't be able to select the command. [/i]
3. In the resulting Preflight:Droplet Setup dialog box, reply to the prompts and specify the folders for storage.
4. Click Save to open the Save droplet as dialog box. Name the file, and click Save.
5. The file is generated.
I always save a droplet to the desktop. To use it, all you have to do is open the folder containing the files you want to process, and drag them to the droplet's icon on the desktop.
