save as function

I used Adobe 6.0 pro & just got 8.0 pro
I found that save as function differs from 6.0 to 8.0
When I save a pdf w/long file name, I used to click one pdf file & change a part of file name to create a new file & 6.0 led me save as new file
Now w/8.0, once I click one pdf file & although change the file name, it does not let me save, instead the pop up msg asks me to replace the file?
Why is this happening?

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 8, Windows

You should be able to click a file name in the Save As dialog box, change one or more characters and the file should save as a new file. Make sure that the file name is unique and not the exact same name as the file you select in the Save As dialog.

I do this everyday with Acrobat 8. I'm not sure what is happening, but I might suggest you update to the latest version 8.1.1 (and you can do this will the trial as well).

Let me know if you are still having problems after the update.

Yes, you *should* be able to change the name, but you can't. I'm experiencing the exact same problem. I'm quite familiar with clicking on a file name, changing some part of it, then saving it under this new name, but Acrobat 8.0 will not allow you to do this. A box comes up and say, "File-Name already exists. Do you want to replace?" and will not let you save the file under any other name.

Why?

Yes, what a non-answer posted by Ted. I am having the exact same problem. I change the file name so that it IS unique, but it still reverts to save over the file that I had originally clicked on. Anyone else have a suggestion? I am on a trial of Acrobat 8.0 and if I can't resolve this, I certainly won't be purchasing.

Sorry for the confusion on this matter and the brief response I posted earlier. Personally I haven't seen the problem. Can you verify if this problem still exists in Acrobat 8.1.1? Perhaps we can help run it down if the same thing is happening with the most recent upgrade of Acrobat.

Hi guys, found this thread via a google search...just wondering if anyone worked it out? I'm on an I.T support desk, and this one has us stumped. Have tried multiple versions of acrobat pro, and reinstalled - last on the list is a rebuild but am trying to work it out so I can add a solution to our knowledge base should it occur again.

Same description as everyone else it looks like, when printing to "adobe pdf" to generate a pdf it prompts us to type a file name. When we type a name it says it exists, upon checking the directory it has created the file before printing it. So no matter what name you type, it creates it before it prints therefore not allowing it to print.

Any ideas?
