Scanner Pulls Extra Page, Keeps Asking for Next Page

I have an Epson Perfection 3170 scanner with an automatic document feeder.

I'm running OS X 10.5.5 on a PowerMac G4 FW800 (2x1.25mhz processor).

I'm running into two issues when using the scanner with Acrobat Professional 7.0:

1. After each sheet goes through, the feeder automatically runs another page through (but does not scan it).

2. I need to turn off the "Next Page" pop-up. What's the point of having a document feeder if you need to verify scanning after every page?

At one point, I did install the sane-TWAIN drivers. I assume this is related. I have totally removed that software (from the OS X side and through the terminal).

Additionally, I have tried:
-Reinstalling OS X
-Reinstalling Acrobat / CS2
-Reinstalling the Epson drivers
-Scanning with single/double-sided scanning
-Trying with/without OCR activated
-Running with the ADF (auto document feeder) option on, and "auto detect" turned on

Any fixes or helpful suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks for your response. The scanner does not provide automatic duplexing. I've tried changing the settings for double and single-sided scanning.
