When I convert a Word document to a PDF using
Acrobat 8 pro, the top line of each page jumps to the end of the preceding page. Changing to line 1 or line 2 does not cure it.

You might want to try the following:

1. compose your Word document with the 'Adobe PDF' printer as default
2. with your normal default printer, set the resolution to 600 dpi
