Type overruns edge

When printing some documents from an Excel based application the print preview screen shows all type nicely laid out. When I then print to pdf using the Adobe PDF "printer" some lines of type run into the border and the last letter or two are truncated.

If I print it to pdf via SnagIt (a screen capture utility that also installs its own "printer" that then allows me to save in a range of formats, including pdf) the type is correctly spaced.

I'm using Acrobat Professional v8; I've tried changing from the "Standard" setting to "High Quality Print" or "Press Quality" and the problem still exists.

I'm sure this must have been asked before but I've not been able to see a simple answer (which there should be, since SnagIt seems able to print correctly) - I know I could use SnagIt but that involves an extra step and, besides, I've bought Acrobat and I'd like it to get it to work properly.

Thanks.

I have exactly the same problem, using Excel 2003 and Acrobat 7.0.9, both fully patched. Acrobat insists on putting its own blank space around my spreadsheet, making the zone available for printing too small to expose the entire worksheet. Print preview in Excel shows the effect: if I set the default printer to an ordinary printer, the preview looks correct; if I set the default printer to Adobe, the print preview shows only 90% of the spreadsheet. The rest is blanked by large margins. I am using only one TrueType font, Verdana, and avoiding all fancy graphics.

What is the option "Enable Accessibility and Reflow with tagged PDF" set to?

You probably want it unchecked.

Where is this box? I've scoured the pdf printer settings to no avail.

Since conversion from an MS Office application is primarily done in the MS Office application, look on the MS Office application's menu bar for "Adobe PDF".

Unfortunately, whilst the application is based on Excel, it doesn't give access to the MS Office toolbars and the associated pdf creation functions. To create a pdf here means using the Acrobat printer - and it doesn't print what's on the preview. As I said in my first post, other pdf printers (i.e. not Adobe Acrobat's) work OK - it seems to be just the Adobe one that doesn't get it right.

I'm running Acrobat Pro v8, too!

Did you have Acrobat install the "PDF Maker Macros"?

Acrobat is fully installed, as far as I can tell. I can create pdfs with the macros from Word or Excel under normal circumstances. However, that's no help here as they're not available - hence I'm using the pdf printer. Besides, I don't need indexing or any other luxuries. All I want is for the Adobe version to work like other versions and print what it's supposed to print.

It's annoying to have shelled out for the full Acrobat Pro yet have to use a competing pdf printer product in order to create a simple one-page pdf file. Looks like I'll need to use the Snagit version (which requires an intermediate step) or reinstall pdf995.

Thanks for trying, though.

Have you looked at using the "Snap Shoot Tool" in Acrobat? I just used this to copy part of PDF to a PowerPoint slide.

Not aware of anything called the "Snap Shoot Tool" - and the help system doesn't find anything. However, I'm not looking to grab part of a pdf. I'm not looking for more work-arounds - I can do that by using somebody else's pdf printer. I want a way to configure the Acrobat printer to print properly.
