Underlined Bookmarks in Word convert with letter "U" in front -- revisited

I am experiencing the same issue as a previous topic
http://acrobatusers.com/forum/pdf-creation/underlined-bookmarks-word-convert-letter-u-front

except I am using Windows XP, however upgrading Adobe did not fix the issue.
I'm using Office 2007 and Acrobat Pro 9.4.1

I've tried using the Acrobat Add-In for MS Word and creating it directly through Acrobat, the problem occurs either way. The headings were made by modifying Word's built-in styles and saving them. Any other suggestions?

Thank you!

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 9.4, Windows

Here is a link to some suggestions for correcting this problem in the User 2 User forums.

I did see this reply a while back but it didn't work... no other suggestions out there? I keep running into this issue so I thought I would try to keep the post going.

A very interesting thing about the Us showing up is that no Bs or Is show up for bold or italicised headings.

The formatting code within Word consist of multiple characters and Acrobat does not appear to be properly identifying the entire string, so some of the special string is not being suppressed.

Makes sense that this is the cause. Is there an update that addresses this issue or a way to trick Acrobat into formatting correctly??
