Don't know how it happened, but one of my acrobat files got saved as a pdf/a. Now it opens as read-only, and I can't find a way to get the file back to a regular editable PDF. The Help function shows an Advanced/Preflight window where you can click an icon to uncovert a pdf/a, but that is for acrobat pro 8.0. I have acrobat pro 10; the preflight tool is nowhere to be found. Anybody know how I can get my pdf/a back to a regular pdf, hopefully better and faster than printing it out and scanning it? Thanks.

Acrobat Pro X Preflight:

Open the Tools pane.
Observe the gray 'bar' that is immediate beneath Tools | Comment | Share.
A 'page' icon is present on this - at the far right.
It has a drop-down menu; open it.
Now, from the menu, click "Print Production".
Print Production becomes one of the options on the Tools pane (it is "sticky").
Expand the Print Production pane.
Third entry down is Preflight; with a click the Preflight dialog will open.

Preflight can also be placed on the Quick Tools bar.
Click the Customize Quick Tools icon (cog wheel).
In the dialog, expand "Print Production".
Select Preflight then click the arrow head that faces right to add it to the "Quick Tools to Show" column.
Click OK. Preflight is the printer/magnification glass icon.

It worked! Preflight is really buried deep in version 10; I never would have found it.

Just in case anyone else has this problem and finds this string, I will note the following steps to take after opening the Preflight dialog popup window (Note: you have to have the file open in Acrobat when you go through the Preflight fix):

Make sure you are looking at the Profiles tab in the popup. You will see nine headings listed.
The 6th one down from the top is "PDF/A Compliance"
Click the gray arrowhead to the left of this item to expand it
The 6th line down is "Remove PDF/A Information"
Click on it to select it
Then click the "Analyze and Fix" button in the lower right corner of the popup.
Preflight will restore the file to an editable PDF, which you can then save
