Word 2000 Measurement Units Change with Acrobat 7.0 Standard

When converting my Microsoft Word 2000 document using Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Standard my Word measurement Units change from inches to points. I've tried saving a new Convert to PDF Settings File with Inches as the default page units and have selected this file in Word as the default Settings File, but it did not help. Even if I select "Convert to PDF" from the tool bar and click cancel in the pop up box, the units have been changed from inches to points. This is frustrating! I'm constantly having to change my Word units back to inches. Help!!
