Word with embedded pdf -> pdf

I've got a word document that I've embedded a pdf into where the icon shows up in the document and you can click on it to open the pdf. When I convert the Word Document (with the embedded pdf) to pdf, the embedded pdf icon becomes inactive. Is there a way for that embedded pdf to stay active?

I would try using the hyperlink tool in Word to link the PDF instead of embedding it.
