Word image quality poor AFTER upgrade to Acrobat 8

I just upgraded to Acrobat Pro 8 (from Pro 7.x), and am experiencing a problem that didn't exist when I was using 7.x.

I often create a PDF from a MS Word 2003 document that has a company logo in it. The logo file is a good quality PNG (the problem also happens if the file is a JPG). In 7.x the word doc generated a PDF no problem, good all around. Now, if I use THE EXACT SAME word doc to generate a PDF in Acrobat Pro 8, the image goes to sh**. Really crappy, poor quality that is unacceptable to send to a client. The problem is repeatable across different MS Word docs as well. It is also repeatable across different methods of creating the PDF (i.e. PDF 'print' from within word, or 'Create PDF' from within Acrobat).

The same problem is happening on two separate boxes, one using WinXP SP2, and one using WinVista. I have not noticed it in other programs, but for the most part, the other programs I create PDF's from are Adobe products.

Any help would be appreciated. This puts a major kink in our workflow around here...

What are the image conversion settings on the "Compression" tab?

JPEGis a lossy compression method, that is each time the JPEG is saved image information and quality is lost.

Good idea. Unfortunately, I have messed around with this quite a bit to no avail. I started out using the same preset values that I used in Acro 7.x. Whe that had problems I started messing with the conversion settings. I have the compression settings at 'max image quality' and have experimented with bumping up the resolution dpi (as high as 600dpi), but nothing makes any difference.

I've also tried PNG, GIF as well as different JPG files. These are not big files, only about 250 pixels across, and look just fine in the word file (and fine if I print from MS word).

I'm still experimenting on different things, but I appreciate the help!

Did you ever figure out a solution to this problem? I'm having the same thing happen.

Try changing your PDF settings to "Press Quality". This would be in Settings dialog in Word/Adobe PDF or in the Adobe PDF tab of the printer settings.
