Word to PDF, Page Number Problem

Answered

I am working in Microsoft Office Word 2007, Adobe Professional 8.0, and on a PC.

I am trying to save a Word document into a PDF. In Word 2007, there is a "Save As" feature that allows you to save it directly as a PDF.

When I do this, my page numbers go from "Page 1 of 21" and "Page 2 of 21" (and so on) in the Word document to "Page 1 of 1" and "Page 2 of 2" (and so on) in the PDF.

I've tried going into Adobe, and "creating a PDF from file," but I get errors.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thank you in advance,
Brenda

I also have the same problem, but via a different route. I am working in MS Office Word 2007 and Adobe Standard 8.0 with Windows XP.

When I use the 'Acrobat' menu in Word (or selecting 'Adobe PDF' from the Save As menu) it delivers the same page numbering issue (i.e. "Page 1 of 1" and "Page 2 of 2" rather than "Page 1 of n"). My default setting is to create a "Fully functional PDF".

I have found that when I deviate from my default setting and select "Quick and simple PDF" that the page numbering is correct.

I have yet to determine exactly what the fully functional PDF delivers compared to the quick and simple version, but I think it is associated to bookmarks and tagging features.

Thanks for the response!

Where do you go to change the Adobe settings for Word?

When I create a PDF in Word, I just choose the Save As Function... There is an options button, but it is pretty limited, and I don't see anything close to "quick and simple PDF."

When I try to go to Adobe to create a PDF, it tells me that it can't open that file format.

Why can't our programs just get along? :-)

Update your Acrobat with the latest patches. Office 2007 support was added in Acrobat 8.1.

BrendaK,
re: MS Word page numbering coming over into a PDF.
Are you using MS Word field codes for your page numbering?
If so, try an update of the field codes prior to the output of PDF to see if it resolves the issue.

As abhigyan posted, do update your Acrobat 8 application through the last set updates to "8" (if appropriate).

Be well...

Thank you so much, abhigyan and daka360 - downloading an update fixed this problem.

In case anyone else stumbles upon this problem, here's the update to fix it: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3661

Thanks again!!

I am having the same problem, but I am on 8.1.2. If I select print from inside Word and use the Adobe PDF print driver it works fine. But any other method I try has the problem including the option to right click the word file and select print, with Adobe PDF as my default print.

never mind - I found the issue, it appears to be macro related.

I went to the Trust Center in Word 2007 and updated the setting from "Disable all macros with notification" to "Disable all macros except digitally signed macros". While this is less secure, my page numbering works now.

Clearly Acrobat is using some kind of macro to create the PDf, but the only warning I get about macros is when saving in docx format with the compatibility box checked - cannot save VBA Project in a macro free document.

I have the same problem, but none of the answers you got worked for me.
I have Office 2007, Acrobat Standard ver.8.1.3 and Win XP Professional.

I usually combine files, but the problem also orrurs when converting one single file.
I have to use bookmarks and links, so this function has to work as well.

Does anybody know what to do, other than changing back to Office 2003?

I'm having the same issue. Word 2003 (fully patched) and Acrobat 8.1.4. The issue only appears on some of the PC's here at my company, not all. Oddly, it appears to be related to Word somehow as if I try to convert a doc I make, it's fine, but if I try to convert a doc my associate makes, it doesn't work.

HELP! Anyone?

This is a real issue. For me this issue started after Office 2007 upgrade. I could reproduce this issue more than 90% of my testing. May be I did testing more that 100 times, in different situations. I worked with Microsoft and Adobe regarding this issue. They both could reproduce the same issue on their test environment.

I found a temporary fix from the internet for fixing this issue and that worked 100% of my testing. Please see below:

Click Office Button --> Word Options --> Advanced Tab --> Check "Print XML" option. After setting setting "Print XML" checked pagenumbering is showing correctly in PDF conversion.
I checked with Microsoft they are saying this option has nothing to do with Page numbering. Anyway this fixed my issue so I stopped researching on this for now.

ALSO THIS IS WORKING FINE AFTER ADOBE 9 INSTALLED.

My environment: Office 2007/Adobe 8 with all the latest patches. Word documents are creating in Word 2003 Compatibility mode. I have tested with Office 2007 SP2 also, but didn't help

I am trying to combine two PDF files into a single PDF fiel
the original PDF file number are: Doc 1 (pg 1 of 1) + Doc 2( Pg 1of4, 2of4, 3of4, 4of 4)
and no matter how I set up the page display it merges them to a new Doc with pages - pg 1 of 1, 1of1, 2of2, 3of3,4of4. What I want is p1of1 + p1of4 + 2of4 +3of4 + 4of4.

I have Windows 2007 running Adobe 9 Pro on Windows XP Professional.

Getting to my wits end on this.
