I have Word 2000 and Acrobat 8 under WinXP. PDFWriter buttons show up fine. When I click on it to create a PDF, the process bar goes to about 15% and crashes Word. Very repeatable, in a file that is practically all text (no embedded graphics or other funny stuff) other than some bookmarks and hyperlinks. A few of the standard Word heading and body text styles are used. Distiller (print to AdobePDF printer) works fine, but of course doesn't keep any of the hyperlinks live which PDFWriter would do if it worked. Acrobat 6 PDFWriter was never a problem; I've been using 8 for about 6 months now. Any ideas?
Perhaps your PDFmaker macro is not installed correctly. You can try running the Repair Acrobat installation under the help menu (without any other applications running) to see if this corrects the problem. There are a few other troubleshooting issues in the following technical note at:
