How do you change the default folder thumbnail icon to a customized image?
For example, you have a folder called nature. Instead of showing a folder icon I would like to show a thumbnail of a nature related photo.
Thanks,
Gil

Afraid it's been asked before and the answer is "without Flex, you can't":

Can you provide information or at least point someone in the right direction to change this is you have Flex?
Just installed it and I would like to change the folder icon for portfolios.

Thanks

In Acrobat X Portfolios, the image used for folders is taken from the "Theme" - which you can replace with a SWF, using Flash Pro - *HOWEVER* the same image is used for every folder, so there is no way to use different images depending on what's in the folder. For example using only Themes you could not simulate the way Windows shows different designs if the folder contains images, documents, etc.

To allow the folder icon to change based on what's inside, you would have to create a new Layout (aka "Navigator") using the Acrobat X Portfolio SDK and Flex (aka Flash Builder). Your problem is that there are no templates for the shipped layouts in the PSDK - so if you wanted to make a version of "Linear" with custom folder icons, you would have to re-write the entire Linear navigator from scratch (and you aren't able to see how Adobe did it).

We have an on-demand Tech Talk on using Themes in the Learning Center, and Joel has a series of tutorials about working with Flex and the PSDK on his blog.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I have Adobe Premium CS5.5 and I have the Acrobat X Portfolio SDK. I am assuming Flash Builder is part of Flash Professional CS5.5 (I guess will find out as I get into it further) I am working on a new project that has the folder image problem so I am looking forward to the challenge of making a Linear navigator from scratch. Nothing like working without documentation or examples to develop (right :) )

Thanks for your help and I will definately be using your tutorials and the Learning Center.

Flash Builder is a separate program, it's not part of Flash Pro.
