links created in FrameMaker

I author 7 user guides in FrameMaker 8.0. I have always been able to create all my links, both within guides and between guides in FrameMaker and when I create the PDFs (I have all guides, all chapters open) and print to a postscript file, then use Distiller to create the PDF. Now none of my between guides links work in the PDFs. Is it true that I need to recreate the between document links in Acrobat once the PDFs have been created. I house all my PDFS in Portfolio to be able to search all guides at once.

Once you've placed them into a Portfolio? Yes.

But, you do not have to place the collection of User Guides into a Portfolio to obtain search of all guides at once.

Use a Catalog index of the collection of PDFs.
Have a single page (it could be blank) PDF which has the Catalog index *.pdx file "mounted"
(Document Properties > Advanced Tab)Open this PDF with Adobe Reader, or any of the Acrobats.
Commence advanced search (Edit > Search or Shift+Ctrl+F or use the search "binocular" icon (if not present, add it from the "More Tools" dialog)).If you have several Guides in different catagories then put each catagory of Guide PDFs into a folder.
Have all the folders under a parent folder. Build to Catalog index such that it is save to the parent folder.
When you build it, you point it to each of the child folders.
Have the "search" PDF at this level as well. If you want to alter it, you do not have to rebuild the Catalog index because this particular PDF would not be included in the build of the Catalog index.
