Hi, I'm only just starting out using Porfolios.

I've seen a range of file types used within Portfolios, yet can't seem to replicate that myself.

I want to incorporate some .exe files, but it says "Acrobat cannot open the file attachment because your PDF file attachment settings do not allow this file type to be opened". I assume there's some sort of setting I need to modify, but I can't work out what.

Can anyone assist please?

Hi PetafromOz,

In the Help doc (under Add and Attachment) it explains that certain file types ( EXE, ZIP, VBS) cannot be opened by Acrobat because they pose a security risk (can contain virus, malicious code etc.). So while you may be able to attach a file, itdoes not always mean it can then be opened.

Hope this helps,

Hi Dimitri,

So is there any way I can execute an application from a Portfolio? I've created some online tutorials using Captivate. I can publish these as htms or swfs. I've been able to include swfs ok in a Portfolio, but Captivate separates the 'skins', which contain the menus and control bars, so the swfs are displayed without their menus or control bars.

Is there any way to utilise Portfolio to play these properly?

Thanks, Peta

Hi PetafromOz,

I'm not sure how you would add the resources for the Captivate swf to the Portfolio, sorry. Maybe someone else will weigh in here.

Hope this helps,

Hi PetafromOz,

Another idea would be to embed your Captivate swf in a PDF and add the PDF to the Portfolio. You can create a poster image from a frame in the video as the thumbnail in the Portfolio.

Thanks Dimitri, I'll have a look at that link. Meanwhile, I've downloaded an upgrade of Captivate to version 4.0 and the problem has pretty much gone away, because their swfs in the new version, seem to retain the menus & control bars. So from that point of view, it's all good now.My next problem though is the hyperlinking within the Captivate sessions aren't working. But... that's another question and I'll post it separately.

Many thanks for your help Dimitri,
Peta
