Searching in a PDF vs a PDF portfolio vs an Indexed Catalog

I am developing a system that includes many about 100 PDFs. When I search a single PDF I am presented with an option under the full acrobat search to match all of my search words exactly or to match any of my search words. In effect in a single PDF I can do simple "AND" searches or I can do simple "OR" searches. When I search a PDF portfolio I am not presented with the full acrobat search option and therefore cannot perform even simple "OR" searches. The defaulty search in a PDF portfolio appears to be a simple "AND" search with every search word needing to match exactly. I want to be able to perform both "AND" and "OR" searches in a PDF portfolio. Is that possible and if it is how would I do that?

I have briefly looked at an indexed catalog of PDFs but have not yet been able to learn what search possibilities might exist within the index. If there are more complex searches available in an indexed catalog I would appreciate any information or direction to a written resource where I could see how this could be done. Thank you.

Hi,
Regarding Catalog index and Search.
Study Acrobat Help. Perform a search of Help using the query "search" for some results that may be of interest.
Regardless, for use of Search across a Catalog index look at the topic "Advanced Search Options" as a starting point.
Catalog indices permit a sophisticated level of advanced search.

When opening a single PDF I am presented with the advanced search options and then am easily able to select different criteria for conducting a search. When opening a PDF portfolio I am not presented with the advanced search options and therefore have no way to do anything other than a basic search.

I have been in contact with technical support and have the following solution to my problem. Although a little cumbersome and a little counter-intuitive this does work and has allowed me to proceed with my project.

- start Acrobat Pro

- click Edit then Search to open the Advanced Search window

- back in the Acrobat Pro window click File then click Open to open your portfolio

- you must now select all PDFs in the portfolio by clicking on the first and Shift-clicking on last PDF

- back in the Advanced Search window you should now enter your search word(s) and any additional search criteria that are available - the one in particular that I wanted to be able to use was the Match Any word(s) instead of the default Match Exact word(s) when I entered 2 or more words in the word to be searched box

- execute the search and you are now able to move from located search results in the Advanced Search window to specific locations in specific PDFs in the portfolio - IMPORTANT NOTE: if you do not select all PDFs in the portfolio before conducting your search you will get all of your search results but you will not be able to click on a search result and go to that specific location in that specific PDF

- to conduct another search in this same portfolio you must click on View along the top line of the Acrobat Pro window, slide down to Portfolio, slide over the Home and finally click Home - you cannot simply close the window showing the specific PDF you are looking at as that will now close the entire portfolio
