Where is the indexing capability in Acrobat X portfolios?

I generate large reference portfolios (3,00 - 5000 documents) for research and searching capability. Making a single PDF available to other staff members in a large organisation is far more efficient than giving users access to the source pdf file directories.

I was at a total loss to find that Acrobat X portfolio functionality provides no means to integrate an index into the portfolio pdf. With out this feature Acrobat X is useless for this purpose.

My work environment has installed Acrobat X. A 3304 pdf portfolio took 7 minutes to do one pass of a single word search (Results 23 docs - 49 instances).

When I reconstructed the same content with Acrobat 9 and include the index the response time is 6 seconds for the same result. A complex search returning 500 documents with 5825 instances took 61 seconds.

Am I missing where pre-existing capability has been put in Acrobat X or has this just been dropped.

Given its use within our organisation I may be making a case for Acrobat X to be rolled back to version 9.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 10.0, Windows

Was this a Portfolio of PDFs containing the Catalog index?

Hi daka630
I used an embedded index with Acrobat v9. Advanced tab -> Focument Processing -> Manage embedded index.

It was also a headache for me to find how to embed an index in a portfolio using Acrobat X until I…

Go to View menu : Portfolio : Cover Sheet

Then you will see the real Acrobat toolbars where you can embed an Index as usual :

Tools panel : Document processing : Manage Embedded Index.
