Acrobat 8 EPS failing wPS Error: Offending Command cshow

I work at a Newspaper - we eps all Pdfs to place in Quark 6, when these files go thru Asura - we get PS error Offending Command cshow

I can repeat the process using Acrobat 6, with no problem. I have tried to match all of our Acrobat 6 settings in Acrobat 8 (and 8.1.2) - but I still get the same error.

I'm not an Asura expert - but we have an Asura queue for pre-flighting, if I use the resulting EPS from that pre-flight process - all is well. But there are times when we need to make EPS from our desktops, using Acrobat 8.

This process does not involve Distiller at all. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi xenadesign,

I would assume the problems do not occur with Asura normalising the EPS since it converts all fonts into outlines? The cmap error does point towards a composite font problem inside the raw EPS output.

It might be worth running a preflight fixup such as 'Convert to PDF/X-1a' on all PDFs prior to making an EPS - this ensures the content is correct initially. Then once you convert to EPS, drop into Quark and re-try the test.

You might also want to try different output options from Quark such as CMYK and DeviceN to see if this makes a difference.

I stop using Quark about 6 years because of print production problems such as above - I use InDesign these days without any problems (but you knew I'd say that [smile])

Let us know how you get on,

Cheers!

Jon

I've been using Acrobat since v1.0 and still get amazed by its power. An Acrobat ACE since 1999
