Acrobat 8 Standard crashes when printing

Has anyone else had any problems printing with Acrobat 8 Standard? Mine has started crashing when I try to print PDF files from the web. If I print a local copy it does not crash. It doesn't seem to matter if I use the browser plug-in or not. I am using the latest printer drivers and have tried various printer models. Sometimes it will crash by just opening up the print dialog box and closing it again. It is very frustrating because the program used to work perfectly and I have not made any changes to my OS (Win XP PRO SP2).

I am also having the same problem with Adobe Professional 8.1.2. I have run all the updates and still, Adobe Crashes when attempting to print a pdf File. I am having this problem on an IBM InteliStation Pro Z running Windows XP 64 Bit OS. Is there any work around.

Do these PDFs contain watermarks?

To my knowledge, these PDFs do not contain any watermarks. It only seems to happen when opening online PDFs. I did recently change my printer drivers from postscript to PCL which makes PDFs print faster. However, it is the latest PCL driver from HP. Could this be the problem?

What type of HP printer is this? Are you running the latest update of Acrobat -- 8.1.2? There were some fixes in the latest version of Acrobat specific to printing on HP printers:

I am running version 8.1.2 and printing on HP5000 and HP1200 printers. It will even crash if I cancel the print dialog box without printing. I have ran the repair option but it did not fix the problem.

Since this is occurring in the browser only, have you tried clearing the cache? Are you selecting the print menu from the browser or from the Acrobat toolbar?

All printing is done from within Acrobat using Ctrl-P or the toolbar. If I install the browser plug-in, the problem still occurs. The browser cache is cleared several times daily. Maybe there are some temporary Acrobat files somewhere that I can delete.

Here is a suggestion for removing temporary files (taken from the following technical note):
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=333214&sliceId=2To delete temporary files:

1. Close any open applications.
2. Choose Start > Run, and type command in the Open text box. Click OK.
3. Type each of the following commands, pressing Enter after each command:

c:

cd\

del acr*.tmp /s
4. Type exit to close the Command.com window.

I ran the command but there were no acr*.tmp files found.

Are you printing to a network printer?

Yes, they are network printers.

Do you ever experience this problem with a local printer? Is your print server setup to run alternate drivers for different operating systems on client computers? It's possible that you're using a printer driver that's compatible with the print server's operating system but not with your computer's operating system. You can install a printer driver that's compatible with your operating system using the Add Printer Wizard on your system.

I have not tried it with a local printer. However, all of our workstations and print servers are Windows XP SP2. It seems to me that Acrobat has its own printer interface. Has there been any changes to that software recently?

It even happens when I print to the Adobe PDF printer.
