Exporting to PDF from InDesign my selections for document quality are

High Quality Print
PDF/X-1a:2001
PDF/X-3:2002
PDF/X-4:2008
Smallest File Size
4SquareGraphics_1-21-10 (custom setting saved by me)
Trueflow (custom setting provided by commercial printer)

There used to be a setting named "standard" but I haven't seen it in my dialog box since sometime in Acrobat 8. The "standard" option does appear in Distiller itself. Here's that list of options:

High Quality Print
Oversized Pages
PDF/A-1b:2005 (CMYK)
PDF/A-1b:2005 (RGB)
PDF/X-1a:2001
PDF/X3:2002
[note: no option shows for PDF/X-4:2008]
Press Quality
Smallest File Size
Standard
4SquareGraphics_1-21-10
Trueflow

Thanks for any pointers.

Something to try.

Open Distiller.
Select Settings > Edit Adobe PDF Settings
In the dialog window that appears, tick 'Show All Settings' (bottom left of the dialog).
In the left-hand pane, locate and select the job option "Standard".
Click "Save As"
The default 'File name' will be "Standard(#).joboptions"
– where (#) is an incremented number, if this is the first Save then (#) = (1).

If you want to edit the settings, re-open "Standard(1).joboptions", edit, Save As – but reselect
the file name "Standard(1).joboptions".
Off course, you can provide a "familiar" name to the file if that helps.

So, after all this, your user configured joboption ought to be available.

Be well...
