Acrobat Reader 8 and printing files with a watermark

This is the situation: I tried to print a .pdf file with a watermark using Acrobat Reader 8. Even though the file loaded onto the screen fully, it printed the first page but only portions of the last two pages. One of the portions was the watermark with text showing through the inside outline of the watermark. File printed fine with Acrobat Pro. We found that you could print from the Reader if the "print as an image" box was checked in the Advanced window of the Print screen. What would cause this situation and how often does it occur?

My Product Information:
Reader 8, Windows

Maybe my situation was just a fluke. But let me clarify. Subject file loaded into and was fully viewable in both Acrobat 6 Pro and Reader 8. File printed fully from Pro with watermark showing through on the document page. Printing to the same network printer from Reader 8, the same file printed the first page (no watermark present) but both of the next two pages (3 page document) which included a watermark printed only the outline of the watermark with the body of document showing through (but only within the watermark's outline). The printer's settings were not changed for either print job. The printer is a Lexmark monochrome printer. Again, situation was resolved by printing in the "print as image" mode. Purpose of asking the question was to document the resolution and to inquire about the possible cause of the situation in the first place. Subject file was downloaded from a website; so how it was created is unknown.
