adobe reader 8 won't print

Hi,

Since we started installing the version 8 of adobe reader (clean installation), some of our users suddenly can't print, different documents, different printer models (all HP though). It does not matter what program you use to print from, restarting the machine does not work, we have also tried to restart the printer, nothing...

It looks as though it worked before we installed the updates for adobe reader 8, but then it stops. The only way we have managed to go around the problem is to uninstall version 8 and install version 7 instead.

When the problem appears you get an error message on the screen, (can't remember it though) then nothing happens, the document is in line to be printed but with an error message...

The computers are Dell (different models) using win 2000 OS, latest patches and drivers.

Anyone else had the same problem? Got an solution?

Regards Teresia

Hi,

Yes, it is after the upgrade we get problems..
(Automatic updates - install adobe reader 8.1)

But the error appears after a while, and not on all computers...
And as i told before, different computers, different document, different printers...

Did you try to "Print as image" (File menu > Print > Advanced) ?

Hmm.. no i did not..
Just curious, why should i? I mean, it is a PDF (text-document) and it prints perfectly with earlier versions of adobe reader. The problem occurred first when i installed adobe reader 8.1 - (latest updates.... )

I have seen that other people has a similar problem at other forums but i have not seen a solution or an explanation for this problem... does anyone now why it occurs? Is there a bug in adobes update?

Hi,

I too am having print problems - I tried the Print as Image and it now will print 3/4 of 1 page whereas before it used to print about an inch before it all stopped. I am using Windows/ Acrobat 8.1 and Canon MP600. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have two clients who have the same problem. Both are using Acrobat 8.1, and both print blank documents. Both printers are HPs - don't know if that is related. Before they could print fine, but now that they've upgraded to 8.1 they print "blank" Acrobat documents. There must be a glitch in 8.1? Can anyone explain this or provide a fix? Thanks, Chris Sutton

I am have a client that is using a Canon ImageRunner 6800 series copier and they are having the same problem. Print as Image seems to solve the problem, but we would really like to avoid doing this as a fix.

Anyone heard anything else?

I also have not been able to print from Adobe Reader 8.1.2 (I'm using an HP 2420 Laserjet), even though before upgrading I could print fine. I am using Mac OS X, and I can print fine from all other pdf readers (such as Preview) and programs like MS Word. I also tried to print as image, as one person suggested above, and this did work. However, it took forever to send the print job to the printer, so doesn't seem like an ideal solution. Any solutions, anyone?

Hi ehannon,

Here is an Adobe Knowledgebase article that says there is a known problem with HP 2400 printers ( including the 2420 model) and a suggested fix. It reports that Acrobat crashes when printing which you don't say is happening to you, but it may be worth trying their solution anyway ( downloading a PCL driver from HP).

Can't print with Acrobat Reader 9.1.3. When it try to print it brings up a dialog box showing folders asking me to save the document. It apparently defaults to "Print to File" regardless of what printer I select, so i don't think it is a printer problem. It is an acrobat problem. Any suggestions?

Laptop--Adobe Reader 8 on HP machine to Canon i960 prints blank pages. Printing as images prints in broken-up grey type. Have tried saving pdfs as jpegs, but they still print as blank pages.

Desktop--Dell machine using Adobe Reader 9 to Canon D780 won't print anything at all--when I hit the print button, Microsoft shuts off the program "to protect my computer." Thanks.

I have 9.3 and started having a similar problem. It would only "print to file" and would not print to paper. I had to uninstall adobe by going to my control panel and add/remove programs and select removed adobe reader, then download a fresh copy. Same version as the old one, but now it prints again.
