Advanced Printing Option removes slug info???

This is driving me crazy. We have Acrobat 8 files created in InDesign CS2 that use a slug area at the bottom of the page, approximately 3 inches deep. This slug area is used to display overset text from the ID file as well as our vendor contact info. If we select "page information" to display under the advanced printing options when printing, all the slug info disappears. What we've discovered is that in Acrobat 7 the page info is put at the bottom of the page and does not create an issue. However, in Acrobat 8, the page info is put directly below the bleed box, thus covering up anything in the slug area. Is there a fix to this? Am I missing something? We need to print these pages to display all the slug info and the acrobat file name. Help!!!

If your printer marks were exported as a layer from InDesign, any printer marks you create replace the InDesign printer marks. If the printer marks are not in a layer, Acrobat printer marks overlay InDesign printer marks. Have you tried this using both techniques? Do you experience any different results if you use the Add Printer Marks command under the Acrobat Print Production menu?

Yes, the printer marks were exported as a layer in the PDF. These PDFs need to be layered. The issue here is that the file name of the ID file was exported on the marks and bleeds layer as well. When you print out the PDF, the ID file name appears. The PDF file name is different from the ID file name, so we need to have the PDF file name appear. If we select "file info" under the advanced printing menu, it removes everything that is in the slug area, which is also needed.

Hi Mark,

Have you tried changing the page information style from 'Default' to 'Illustrator' as an example? This will position the filename at the top of the page.

Ironically when I test a bondafide slug across here (included inside ID document setup, export to PDF with the slug option checked) then it works regardless?

Let us know how you get on,

All the best

Jon

Jon,
I tried all the styles, including illustrator, and received the same result. The only solution I have found thus far is to select the "crop pages" option under document, then systematically go through all the different boxes, ie, art box, bleed box, etc., and select the "set to zero" option. Then when I print, the PDF file name prints as well as all the info in the slug area. But certainly there must be an easier way to fix this. We have 1000's of these files to print. Yikes!
