As a newspaper we are compelled to print all color items in CMYK. We receive PDF files from all over and some indeed come in as CMYK, some as RGB. Also as not all files come with fonts embedded correctly, we usually open them in Acrobat 5 (the highest we can get using OS 9x on the Mac. By "SAVING AS" a tiff, we can strip out the post script coding and make it a graphic file. However in doing this the previous CMYK turns to RGB. We can't use that of course. We have been using Acrobat for a long time, but are still very confused by the many options available, and we need help! We will try to ask specific questions as they arise, and appreciate the opportunity to utilize this user group site. Any help greatly appreciated!
So basically the question is: How do we preserve the CMYK settings when saving a color PDF out of Acrobat 5 on a MAC?

If exporting as TIFFs why not let the RIP perform the RGB > CMYK conversion? If you have problems there, you can use Photoshop to convert from RGB to CMYK.All of these methods, of course, are workarounds. You really should look at upgrading your Macs to OSX and using more updated software acrosss the board. Your problems will continue if you stay with the older OS and applications.
