Colors do not display correctly in PDF transparent model

I have a question concerning Adobe Reader v 8.1.1. When I create a document with PDF page having in Resources an image with translucent soft mask (even if that image is not actually painted by the page's content stream), colors painted in that page are somehow changed. For instance, black changes to rgb value of (34,30,31). When the image is removed from the resources, the colors start display correctly.

Is there any type of overprinting here? You can visually see via the Adobe Reader's preferences.

Page Display / Overprint Preview

Maybe this is the cause?

Jon

PS - if this does not work, what are the colour space values of the image? DeviceRGB, DeviceCMYK, Grey, Separation, Indexed?

I've been using Acrobat since v1.0 and still get amazed by its power. An Acrobat ACE since 1999

The overprint preview setting does not affect the issue. The PDF document showing the error does not override any overprinting settings. The image is in DeviceRGB color space. BTW other PDF viewers, including Adobe Acrobat for Linux, show the document correctly. Maybe it would help if I could upload the document showing the error.
