Compatibility between Acrobat 6.0 and Reader 8.1

I use Acrobat 6.0, and recently found that some .pdfs I tried to download from the net generated an error: they were not supported by my version of Adobe.

I then downloaded Adobe Reader 8.1. Now files I download look OK on the screen, but when I print, there are many characters printed incorrectly, or sometime the whole file become jibberish.

Is there a problem running Acrobat 6.0 and Reader 8.1 on the same PC? Should I try installing an older version of Reader, like 7.09, or re-installing Acrobat?

Thanks for your help,

Hi billkorn,

Can you provide a link to the files you're referring to?

Thanks,
Lori

Lori, this has been a problem for my wife (a peditrician) and daughter (in high school) daily. Thier PC has Adobe 6 and Reader 8. They have this problem on almost any file the click on in either Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firfox.

Here's 1 example:

http://www.nhd.org/images/uploads/library/CC_ThemePage_FINAL.pdf

If looks fine on the screen, but when it prints, half the lines don't show up.

At times characters are garbled.

I have no problem on my PC, with just Reader. They didn't have a problem when they just had Acrobat, but they started getting error messages that files weren't compatible with their version of Acrobat. Once we installed Reader 8 almost every .pdf they try to open and print has problems.

Thnaks for your help,

Bill Korn
